Ketching up with taste
This morning, I bit into a tomato I bought yesterday from Morrisons. A simple salad tomato.
I swear that, for a second I was transported back to my childhood when tomatoes were juicy, sweet, soft as a strawberry yet firm but not as a snooker ball.
A simple tomato with a sprinkle of salt, a slice of my mother’s bread still warm. Heaven!
I eat tomatoes just about every day and I am always disappointed. I try to ripen them on the windowsill but a few go rotten before they soften.
I can’t remember tasting as tasty a tomato in years, apart from the odd ones a few of my closest grow in their greenhouses.
I hope the supermarket will still have some of these tomatoes the next time I’m allowed to go shopping.
